Wow - thanks very much, Warhawk! I've been wondering about this kit for months - at last, a new 1/72 Yak-9D. I checked the Yakovlev subforum on Scalemodels.ru under "Самолеты до 1950 - СССР", but couldn't find anything about it - can you please post a link? I hope the release date will be soon. Please keep us updated!

Haven't found a link at forum.
I just have that one from the main announcement that I hyperlinked in my first post.

Thank you, Aleksandar - I missed the link in the first line of your post. I was hurrying to look at the CAD images, I guess!  Embarrassed

Box art and some new details about this kit, provided by Homebee on Britmodeller:

Images from the site, provided by 3beaks on 72nd Aircraft forum:

The l/g doors look a bit thick and could be improved with Part p/e set S72-047, I suppose, but I'm just impressed with the actuating mechanism being represented. I like the oil cooler intake shape and details and the wing root intakes - those are difficult to open up neatly on the Dakoplast kit. The wheel wells also appear to have good detail - the Dako ones, I'm sorry to say, are a mess. It remains to be seen whether the exhausts can be cut out and replaced with REXx ones - it depends on how the nose section is molded. I'm eager to see how hard it might be to move the cockpit back 400 scale millimetres to convert it to a Yak-9T. Good Yak-9D and Yak-9T/K/M decals are available from Foxbot, BTW.

I think I'll be retiring my Dakoplast Yak-9 kits...  Wink

Another test-build image, from Scalemodels.ru:

The exhausts don't look very good, but I expect someone will come up with a resin improvement.

Overall, that looks quite nice. The landing gear doors don't bother me, but I don't like what appear to be lines on the wing undersides where presumably the lower wings snap into the upper wings. The lines I'm seeing do not follow any panel lines (which the Yak-9D with its wooden wings didn't have many of). I'll see about these when I no doubt buy this kit.

Regards,

Good call - maybe it's designed like the Zvezda Yak-3? Cleaning up that joint line on the Yak-3, especially with a large sink mark nearby, was a bit of a chore. Or is what you're seeing the outline of one of the fuel tanks? I'm really eager to get my hands on this kit (in batches of...several... Grin). I've been looking for release date news on Scalemodels.ru, or even for the instruction sheet on Scalemates, but so far, crickets... Cry
