From today's HobbyTerra new arrivals e-mail:
http://www.hobbyterra.com/product.asp?idProduct=1608

Is it another reissue of the old Amodel I-16? Regardless, this latest version includes skis and RS-82 rockets!

Hi John, Smiley
nice news!. There was an edition of Hasegawa I-16 with resin skis, I was told, but I am happy to find them in a fully plastic kit. They would fit on later versions too.

Hi Massimo! Smiley This must be the Hasegawa kit you're talking about:
http://www.hlj.com/product/HSG00926

I haven't found a site which shows detail images of what's included in either the Amodel or Hasegawa kits, though. When/if Modelimex gets the Amodel kit, they'll probably show details like they usually do, I hope!

Here's the Hasegawa - you have to look closely, but it seems the skis are actually styrene, not resin:

Hi John, Smiley
I think you are right. I had never seen this kit before, only heard about it.

Here's a site which has a couple of shots of the Amodel I-16 type 6 kit's parts, inside the plastic packaging; one image shows the skis and RS-82 parts quite well (scroll down a bit):
http://cgi.ebay.pl/I-16-type-6-ski-gears-and-missiles-1-72-Amodel-72164_W0QQitemZ370114060128QQihZ024QQcategoryZ50297QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

I was hoping for a completely new early I-16, but these images show that it is the old Amodel kit, one of Amodel's very first releases, reissued yet again. However, this version includes an extra injection-molded sprue with the skis, rockets, launch rails, a new prop without a spinner, and a new lower wing surface (the original one is also visible inside the bag). I don't know why the new release includes the new wing surface - I believe ski-equipped I-16 aircraft up to and including type 10 had non-retractable landing gear, because they lacked the recesses in the cowling area of later types for the ski tips when the landing gear was retracted, so that isn't the reason. On later types, the exhaust outlets were relocated to allow space for the two recessed areas.

Hi John, Smiley
perhaps it has the holes for the rocket rails.

Hi Massimo! Smiley Well, that certainly makes sense, although considering how rough the kit is, it's too bad they didn't do more improvements, besides just add some locating holes for the rails! I don't see any locating holes in the ebay image, but maybe it's not a very clear photo.

Detail images of the Amodel I-16 type 6 are now posted at Modelimex:

Hi, Smiley
perhaps the new detail in the wing is the metallic plate where the rocket rails should be glued.

Yes; if you look at the other image, you can see the inner surface of the underside of the wing, and there are holes which must be drilled through to allow the mounting of the rocket launch rails in this area.
