For anyone who's modelling or intends to model the Trumpeter 32nd or Amodel 72nd trainer, an interesting find is the original? flight manual scan -probably the best page is:-

http://yak18.boom.ru/book056.htm

Which shows front cockpit detail, although an illustration only. Bear in mind this is for the original Yak 18 not the 18A or suchlike.

Cheers.

Edit: Also take a peek at http://yak18.boom.ru/sar00.htm for some shots of a Yak 1 and Yak 3. Interesting.

Thanks for the links !

I have been considering the Amodel Yak-18
not sure if I'll do a red one or the NKAF machine.....
the 1/32 is WAAAY to big for my shelves.

Ah, DGM. The Amodel 18. Don't get me wrong, there's something very endearing about the 18, but this kit's engine nacelle is something akin to a sculpture by Tony Hancock. Not Tate Gallery material, anyway.

I bought two of 'em and both were the same, pretty bad. You may like to hack off the front end of a Yak 52 and replace for an 18A or U. Fun. The Yak 5 prototype is another possibility if you're a masochist and simply must have an M-11FR type. Why? Because it'd be a very ugly model and it would turn heads.

Edit: If you want to really model the all-red 18 in all *its* ugliness, forget the spinner. You'd then have the immense joy of making some spinner attachment thingies on yonder prop hub.

OH ! you are a sadist!
just a little light-hearted humor. LOL

actually I wish they had been smart enough to do the Yak-18PM instead of the initial model.
but the trick is to do the Korean war version to go with the Yak-9P,Tu-2,La-9 and La-11

Naa.

Have a nice shot of an 18 in what looks like silver dope/natural aluminium on display on a pair of massive concrete blocks, dated 1948. It's uglier without the red.

The concrete bloks are paragons of beauty really, by comparison.

I love this plane. Truly. : )

Yessir.

You wouldn't happen to have anything interesting on the Yak 11, would you, DGM?

MMM

very little I'm afraid
(that will have to change later though)
do you have "Yak fighters in action" ?

the Yak-11 is a mutilation of the Yak-3 in case you didn't know. Wink

if you can do Cyrillic fonts then simply type in Yak-11(in Cyrillic) into your favorite search engine and you might get some interesting results.

then there is always Altavista's Babelfish for translations from Russian to English.

Yeah, it has a LA front-end. Mutilated, as you say.  Grin

Ah, grand.

I see there's an AIR-6 in one of these links. There was a model being sold on ebay a month or so ago -looke very much like the AIR-6, but with a name that was unidentifiable/incomprehensible -eastern european origin though.. More I look at it, it might well have been an opportunity missed.  Sad

Thanks, DGM.
