hello modelers!
those who prefer scale 1/48 perhaps knows already but let announce about the new kits by Eduard that were just released and are going to be.
Yak-1 and Yak-1b is the ones that are available already:
(all information from Eduard site: http://www.eduard.cz/ )

Yak-1

Yak-1b

And in May is to be released I-16 type10

All kits looks very nice and accurately done. Despite plastic there is colored PE parts, masking for canopy, decal and superb instruction sheets with nicely done color profiles sheets.

It would be nice to hear the comments from anyone who builds this scale a/c.

Please refer to producer site and it's April newsletter for more info at: http://www.eduard.cz/newsletter/i2006-04.php

Audrius, Thank You for the info

I have the Yak-1 on order and am eager to see if they have FINALLY done the decals correctly for Baranov's plane.

that Yak-1b sure looks interesting too , do you know what other decals come in the kit ?
(I find that website difficult to navigate, not a very logical layout)

that I-16 is SORELY NEEDED as the old Hobbycraft kits are fun to build but not that accurate.

close examination of the sprues indicate there are 3 spinners and two propellers and also cowlings for 2 types also.
you will see other boxings of this kit as other types.
personally I hope they do ALL the types.

hi DGM!
there is given other color plates on their site, but you are right-it's not easy to catch up.
Here goes the direct links to the painting schemes of Yak-1:

A. Lt.Mikhail Dimitrievich Baranov 183rd IAP http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1115_13.pdf
B. Capt. Georgij Nikanorovich Zhidov 123rd IAP http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1115_14.pdf
C. Lt.Gabenko Stepan Tichonovich 247th IAP http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1115_15.pdf
D. Lt.Innokentij Vasiljevich Kuznetsov 180th IAP http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1115_16.pdf
E. Nikolaj Vasiljevich Cagojko 122nd IAP http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1115_17.pdf
F. UNKNOWN UNIT http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1115_18.pdf

As to Baranov's Yak-1, I think in this case is close to the fact. The only what I would change is that the inscription on the right board would make as well red with white outline as on the left one. Could not find reason why same time making inscription would make it to look different!
As well the victory stars on left board should be on the green camo pattern except the left upper star and one lower, that were painted on black camo.
B. For very beautiful Yak-1 of Zhidov painting scheme the only what would change to my oppinion is the spinner to paint in black. Otherwise I have not noticed anything suspicious.
C. The profile of a/c of Gabenko is in Stankovs's album. BTW the surname is GabeLko and is given with nr. white 9.
D. Yak-1 of Kuznetsov I remember have seen it somewhere, but could not find. The picture of it would be appreciated.
E.  Tsagoiko Yak-1 with nice decorations has not been traced by me in any picture. The profile seem to be sourced from http://avia-hobby.ru/publ/sovaces/color/M_Z/Tsagoiko.html. Where says that the picture was traced in archive.
F. Yak-1 with unusual big "white 2" looks very interesting but not familiar for me.

and for Yak-1b:

A. Yak-1b of Capt. Pavel Maximovich Chuvilev http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1117_13.pdf
B. Yak-1b of escadrille ?Free Donbass? http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1117_14.pdf
C. Yak-1b of St.Lt. Viktor Fedorovich Korobov http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1117_15.pdf
D. Yak-1b (serial. No.08146) of Major Yakov Nazarovich Kutikhin http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n11/1117_16.pdf

A. The picture of Yak-1b Chuvilev could be find in Stankov's Yak album
B. Quite known a/c and profile.
C. I suppose have seen it somewhere but have no evidence on hands
D. Kutihin Yak's profile resembles very much the one in Stankovs' album. Picture could be found over there

The kits of both Yaks and I-16 looks very attractive. Should I put aside my 1/72 and try 1/48 instead?  Grin
DGM please keep informing the board about those kits after you receive and start building them.

Both the Yak 1 kits are re-boxings of the Accurate Minuatures kits with the added bonus of PE, masks and decal choices. From the photos the PE frets appear to be new coloured sets. I have built both Accurate kits using Eduard sets and I can tell you they build up into nice models. IIRC there were no major issues except for the cooler intake at the wing root of the razorback version and some seam filling I had to do on the spine of the 1b due to some warping (but that may have been a storage issue). I would (and will) build them again.

hello!
Regarding Baranov's Yak-1.
In "Yakovlev Aces of WWII" by Osprey there is a good siere of shots of this Yak. And after more close of examination I am sure that the tactical number "1" was painted in red as well. The inscription on right fuselage in my oppinion is red with white outline, except the last letter of the pilot's surname "Baranov" being white since it is painted over red star.

Kuznetsov's Yak profile is taken from same publication, though no picture presented over there.

Now Korobov's Yak-1b. As well the profile taken from same book with repeating same errors. It's amazing how things sometimes are doing. The picture of this Yak in the same book is published few pages before color profile but decal producers can not look at it. It is obvious that the number "8" should have a black outline as well as the stars do!!!

Happy modellling!

Hi there, I'm finally back in Poland, after visiting the USa and Germany. With my brand new Badger 150 with 3 heads and needles. Now I have only to find some free time Wink.
I've just picekd up a new I-16 type 24 from Eduard. I didn't have time to compare it with drawings but it looks nice. The engine cowling is far better than in older Type 10. There is also a guncamera added to make a correct model of Safonov's plane from 72 SAP. The main disadvantage, at the first look are the cockpt dors - to thick. They have to be removed and repleaced by metal ones.
Best regards.
