Something I stumbled across on Scalemodels.ru: Art Model (whose first releases of the Yak-141 and Polikarpov I-185 were well received) have three new 1/72 kits planned for this year, although the first was supposed to be out during January or February, but still hasn't appeared. The only information available is that all three are MiG aircraft; guesses range from WWII prototypes, to yet another MiG-15, to the most recent Mikoyan super-jet. So far, "Art-2", the Art Model insider, hasn't revealed any other firm details.

I like that - it's an excellent choice! Another "one-and-a-half-engined" type, like the Sukhoi Su-5. Look what I'm doing in my spare time:

Latest news on the first of the three 1/72 MiG kits from Art Model:
http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_30323.html

Among all these new kits of prototypes and one-offs (I-185, I-210, Su-1, Su-3), while they are certainly welcome, one widely-used type is being seriously overlooked - yes, I'm talking about the Yak-1b again...  Cry

Poor John!  I feel your pain.  At least with the IL-2, I have actual kits to complain about (and on this kit they have the metal fuselage...).  Who knows, maybe this is the year.  It looks like we'll have a new mould U-2/Po-2 and a new and hopefully accurate 1/72nd scale I-153 coming out.  Look at it this way; if every aeroplane were available in every scale, and were perfectly accurate, that would take away so much of what we modellers talk about ("I can't believe no body's come out with the Farfelgruber FG-6 in 1/48th scale!", "The eighth rivet from the left on the forward port wing spar is scale 1mm too big!", etc.).

Hi John and Jason,
this MiG-9 looks to capture the fat look of the original. Many previous drawings showed simply a 'slim ' MiG-3 with a new engine.

Yes, I'm obsessed about the Yak-1b; it's human nature to crave what you can't have, I suppose! I promise - a new kit in 1/72 scale will have to be pretty bad for me to complain about it! Wink

Here's a general arrangement drawing of the I-210 which shows the chubby, non-MiG-3 fuselage which Massimo refers to:

That I-210/MiG-9 kit looks rather nice; it's basically the MiG analogue to the La-5 I suppose.  I do understand your craving, John, I feel the same way about an accurate I-153, although it looks like my wish will finally be fulfilled this year (Urra!).  The ICM I-153 will also have to be pretty bad for me to complain about it.

Ditto on the ICM 1/72 I-153 - it's going to be an expensive year if all (or even most) of the currently-proposed future releases actually happen, with or without a 1/72 Yak-1b. I'm just barely resisting the urge to buy the Modelsvit 1/48 one...  Embarrassed

Hi John and Jason.
you've found it, that drawing is too sleek. I's probably from the book of Shavrov and reproposed by the most part of following books.
However, La-5 is really a LaGG-3 with another engine and canopy, but it's not fully exact that MiG-9 is a MiG-3 with another engine. The fuselage of MiG-9 is more fat that the one of MiG-3 to accomodate the wider engine.
Yes, it will be an expensive year... I've spared too much last year.

MiG-9/I-210 box art:

Release date is apparently mid-May.

Well the kit might be junk (let's hope not), but the artwork is top-notch computer-generated art.  The MiG-9 looks really great in that picture.

Hi John and Jason,
very nice news.
I'm in doubt with the boxart: all the MiG-3M-82 that I've seen are green/blue, not silver as this seems.

Exactly. Green and blue. Incidentally, the resin model of the KAJUK much better than this model.
