The two-seat trainer version of I-15bis was designated DIT-2 (dvookhmesnyy istrebitel trenirovochnyy, two-seat fighter trainer).

The additional cockpit was posed in front of the original one, and had a full set of controls. The original backrest armour and two guns were removed to save weight.

Only two prototypes were completed at Zavod 1.

Unfortunately, the increase in weight of 52 kg due to the front cockpit, plus the weight of the extra pilot, moved the centre of gravity forward, causing bad spinning characteristics; so the plane was deemed unacceptable as a trainer, and wasn't put into production.

This plane, believed to be the first prototype DIT-1, was described as white with red markings, and red stars of plain type on the upper and lower wings and on the rudder.

Again, the DIT-1.

Here we can see the red star on the upper surface of the wing.

Below: a profile of DIT-1.

This plane was probably the second prototype, DIT-2. The shape and the shade of the painting on the nose and on the wheel fairings are well different, lighter than the red of the star on the rudder, and could be medium blue.

Note the handgrips on the upper wing.

The slots at the root of the wing consoles are usually covered by metal plates.
