The model shows an aircraft from a aerobatic team. The team was perhaps "Krasnaya
Pyaterka" (The Red Fives) which existed from 1935 to 1940. The aicrafts
colour scheme is unknown, but red overall and silver stars is a likely interpretation
of the black and white photos.
For images, discussion and some other historical informations on this team and its planes, see http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php?topic=735.15
The ICM kit is currently the best one of an I-16.
I have made some modifications to the front of the engine cowl: closed air inlets and a corrected lower air intake (the shape of the lower air intake is similar to a polygon and not a foursquare).
The wheel covers are photo-etched parts from PART, and I have made a vacuformed
windshield.
