This photo of a La-5 of 21 IAP seems to show a plane with the inscription Eskadrilya Valeriy Chkalow on the white winter livery, but without any bort number on its fuselage.

Darkening the photo, one can recognize that the number was there, and was 61. It is surprising that the number had a so low contrast, the most likely explanation is that it was painted with silver paint.

The inscription 'Eskadrilya' seems made in silver with red shadowing, while 'Valeriy Chkalow' seems red on white background, and white on red background.
