image from Red Stars n.1

This image represents a LaGG-3 of the 3 Gv.IAP of Red Banner Baltic Fleet during the winter of 1942/43, east of Lake Ladoga.
It was flown by Sgt. Tikhon Svirido Zhuchkov; that reached the unit in December 1942 and flew as wingman to Dmitrii Tatarenko; later, he became a Starshii Leitenant and deputy eskadrilya commander; he was made Hero of the Soviet Union on March 6, 1945, having obtained a total of 10 personal and 11 shared victories in 321 engagements. He continued service after the war until 1960.
On the ground, we see a compressed air bottle to refuel the pneumatic system of the aircraft before taking off.
The aircraft was probably of 35th series of 1942, and its characteristics are:

This aircraft is characterized by:
  •  MK-7 white distemper over a  temperate scheme; the white spay forms a sort of wave mirror on the nose side;
  • a typical 1942 camo scheme was hypothized, with AMT-4 green, AMT-6 black and AMT-7 light blue;
  • red stars on 6 positions;
  • small serial number over the rudder stars;
  • red 52 painted on the sides, perhaps repainted over a previous white 52;
  • probably black prop blades.
