This photo shows a plane of captured by Germans at the beginning of the war. Place and unit are not known.
The image gives vaguely the idea of a large number 5 painted on the stabilizator, but probably it's only a reflex due to slight ondulations of the surface; a similar "phantom 5" was observed on other MiGs too, where its existence was fully unlikely.

Its characteristics aree:
  • early type MiG-3, without slats and radio;
  • painted AII green with light blue undersurfaces; as usual on many early MiGs, both the green and light blue paintings appear darker on the wooden surfaces than on metallic ones;
  • the stars are contoured with a black outline;
  • there is a white fin flash;
  • the demarcation line between green and light blue appears slightly lower than usual;
  • the propeller blades are, as usual, aluminium with the rear surface partially painted black.
