Yak-1, Y.Z. Slepenkov, 21 iap VVS KBF

Yakov Zakharovich Slepenkov was born in November 1910. He participated in Soviet-Finland war in 1939-1940. He participated in the fights of the Great Patriotic War since June 1940 in the rank of Captain. He was commander of the 21 iap KBF sice April 1942. He was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union in February 22, 1943 after he achieved 13 individual and 5 shared victories. Other sources give only 9 individual victories.

According to the NKAP order the matt white paint had to be applied in the very thin layer allowing original black/green camouflage to shine through it rather than giving the overall homogenous white painting.
