Title: WARHAWK PRODUCTIONS - homemade custom vac canopies
Post by: warhawk on February 28, 2013, 11:48:47 AM
(http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x31/warhawk_photo/WP/Header_01_zps924d74a8.jpg)

Here's a series of canopies I made for my own use, but came out far better than anyone had imagined
Also, I already received some requests for selling some, so I thought someone might find them interesting
You can see the canopies, prices and contact info at my Website (http://warhawkproductions.wordpress.com)
Some more will be done in the future, mostly for various 1/72 WWII aircraft.

Please note!:

  • They are made from somewhat thinner plastic. This way the detail is much finer and the cutting is easier (at least for me)
  • They are made as accurate as possible
  • Fit is checked on the model which it was made for (as stated on the package)
  • Canopies marked with a star (*) require some modification of the model to fit.

This is a list of canopies made so far:

  • V72003   - Me-262A: Direct replacement for the poorly molded Revell part
  • V72004   - Fiat CR.25: Direct replacement for Special Hobby part
  • V72005   - PZL.37 Łoś: Direct replacement for the poorly molded ZTS parts
  • V72006   - I-16 (series 10-29): Direct replacement for the inaccurate ICM part
  • V72009   - B5N Kate: Direct replacement for Hasegawa (Mania) part

Hi Warhawk,
the idea of producing canopies is interesting. How about the possibility to produce replacements for the early style canopies for I-16 type 5, I-17 and other of the earliest kits of Amodel?
Regards
Massimo

Good Idea, but I make canopies as I go (for the kit that I'm working on right now)...
When the next soviet kit comes along on the bench, it will get the attention it needs.
Can't say exactly when or what will it be, but you'll get the updates regularly  ;)

Hi Warhawk! I like the idea of a replacement for the ICM I-16 canopy. ICM did make a correction to this part in later releases of these kits, but the early releases were pretty bad. I bought a few of the early release kits for a cheap price, and replacement canopies will be useful!

And what about in 1/48th scale? :D

I received my I-16 canopies a couple of days ago. I haven't had a chance to use one yet, but as received, they look like top quality products. I'm also grateful that I don't have to beg ICM for any more replacements for the incorrect canopy that was included in the early releases of their I-16 kits. For whatever my opinion may be worth, I recommend Warhawk's canopies highly!

I hope they will fit just as good too!

Thinner plastic is good.  I have some old Squadron ones, but I find I never ended up using them because the plastic is so thick that it's hard to cut it out without slipping and damaging it.  So I end up trying to make the kit part work.  I wonder why they use such thick plastic.  Is there a problem with using thinner material?  Anyway, I don't do 1/72, so I guess I will never know.   ;)

Got my I-16, PZL P.37 and RWD-8 canopies a few days ago (via Profa). They look great.

Hi Aleksandar
Quote
V72101   MIG-21 R/SMT/BIS - replacement for the poorly molded  CONDOR, KOPRO (KP), ili ZVEZDA 1/72 kit parts
V72102   MIG-21 BIS - replacement for the poorly molded CONDOR, KOPRO (KP), ili ZVEZDA 1/72 kit parts
Are both types for MiG-21bis, and none for MF and PFM?

Can you please tell me what are the differences in these variants?
My canopy sets depict late-type Migs with two-part, side opening canopy, and with a rear view mirror on the top.
Only difference between these two sets is in the side windows on the windscreen - one having a rounded front edge, the other one rectangular.

Aleksandar

It is clear now, but it would be better to include this in the description.

The cover pictures in the catalogue on my webpage always clearly depict the canopy produced, to avoid any confusion.

Aleksandar

For what I know, the canopy with rounded windows is good for MF and PFM too. It would be better to add this in the description.

Dear friends,

Due to various reasons, most notable of them being a new job abroad, as well as relatively no interest for the canopies in the last few months, I have decided to close down the canopy production.
I have not yet made the decision whether this will be temporary and by how long, but for the time being, I would like to concentrate the little free time I will have solely on my scale modelling and once again view it purely as a hobby.
I would like to thank everyone who have shown trust in me and gave me positive feedback for my work so far, thus helping me to perfect my modelling skills and learn something new.

Regards,
Aleksandar

Sorry to raise an old topic, but I believe a new Russian vac manufacturer has answered Your 'early-Amodel-Rata' canopy issues  :)

Thank you for the link, Aleksandar! I couldn't resist - I went ahead and placed an order. It was a bit challenging since the ebay store is in German, but I blundered my way through; at least, I got a payment receipt from PayPal and then a refund for part of the shipping costs, so I think it worked! As Massimo says, the site offers some very interesting products.

Oh, perhaps it was because I have an account on German E-bay, which allows me to view other E-bay content from around the world...
Sorry, didn't cross my mind to look that add through an English version.

Glad it worked, nevertheless.
Wish they also offered those as separate items (only one I currently need is the I-153 one)

"Next time" will be next decade - The seller is away until Tue, Dec 31, 2030. Expect a delay in delivery until they return.

Yes, this is eBay's charming way of telling us that a seller is in Russia.
