Does anybody have any kind of information on this project - grokhovsky G-38 ?

A what-if with red stars; According to Osprey's Encyclopedia of Russian Aircraft this has been started by Grokhosky, Ivyensen and Korovin in September 1934.
It was planned as a fighter bomber with maximal speed and firepower (4x ShKAS und 2x ShVAK). When the Leningrad combinate was closed 1936 it was nearly finished - but from tehn on there are no more traces of it.
Some data: span 13,4m, length 8,8m, 2x 900 PS Gnome-Rhone K-14
calculated performance: 550km/h

Are there any pictures of a mockup or the project under work left?

Hi, Smiley
is this a real project? The resemblance to P-38 (even in name) is impressive.

Yes, it really is a real project. G-38 (LK-2) - multi-purpose aircraft with two engines "Gnome-Rhone Mistral-Major" K-14 in 850 liters. with., two-beam cabin monoplane with a three on the wing. Chassis - retractable rear, with the engines in the beam. Armament was very powerful - SHK.AS forward four machine guns and two guns ShVAK, ago two SHKAS to pivot setup under the cab to suspended various bomb Designed maximum speed - 550 km / h.

The plane started designing in September 1934, the layout was taken at the end of the year, the plane was built in Leningrad. According to the ideas of PI Grokhovskaya constructive development produced by PA Ivensen and VI Korovin, in calculations of strength and static tests involved MV Orlov and AF Epishev of CAF, the consultants were Professor AK Martynov, and VN Belyaev.

The design of the aircraft was a wooden wing - caisson type with plywood paneling, beams - wood and plywood, all-metal cab, steering wheels - wrapped with fabric. Overall it was a good high-speed aircraft, clean and well-made and completely comply with the requirements of his time.

By the end of 1936 the aircraft was almost finished building. But by that time the situation has changed. The pilot institute was closed and all work ceased.

Soon it became known that the Fokker released in 1936, the plane of such a scheme with the same engines and the plane that was successfully demonstrated. Double-girder American planes "Lightning" and German "Focke-Wulf-189, used in World War II, also had a scheme F-38 aircraft.
