Hey guys,

My MiG-3 is finnished, so now we have found a new victim. The Modelsvit 1/48 Yak-1b. Molding is average. I have the Armory detail and flap set. These look very nice. I am used to have the Eduard zoom pre-colored PE, so this will be new, to color the instrumental panel by myself. Photo's will follow soon!

Regards,

Remco

Hi Remco,
please, check for an eventual warping in the rear of the fuselage, it's less difficult to correct it before the halves are joined.

Hi Xan!

Long time when i checked this topic, i thought i had to start a new topic. I have read your build. Very well done!!. It was extremely helpful for some questions about the bottles inside the cockpit. When i was building the Spitfire, i found some renewed intrest about the Yak-1b. Now i am motivated to have a ''green black'' camouflaged plane in my collection  Cheesy

Unfortunately i have bad lighting on my workbench. With the sell of two T-34 tanks, i now had a budget to buy a new light for making WIP photo's....

For making this Yak, i use the Modelsvit Yak-1b kit and all three Armory PE/ resin wheels updates

I want to open up the maintenance hatches in the cockpit. Unfortunately the detail in the cockpit is minimal and some parts are missing to (radio and the framing for attaching the plating of the hatches). So, on to scratchbuild city. The trip pays off!

The flaps are very difficult to create. a lot of small parts and lots dry-fitting...

I was also not very satisfied with the control surfaces. These are very thick. To correct this, i used Vector resin Yak-7/9 control surfaces. Some adjustments (no, lets call i surgery  Grin) were made to fit the Yak-1b.

....and some other WIP photo's

I hope you like it (and its a bit correct)!

Hey guys,

I am painting the interior of the yak-1b. The color of the seat is a bit of a mystery to me. Normally its A-14 grey with a black of brown fabrics on the backseat. I have a color photo of a Yak-1b in the Polish museum, but then the seat is green (aluminium primer) and the armored plate with the fabrics A-14. My question is: Were the armored plates (or backseat of the Yak-1b) black or A-14 grey?

Thanks in advance

Remco Cheesy

Hi Remco,
I suppose it was grey. Have you reasons to think that it was painted black?

Hey Guys!

Massimo, it was indeed grey. I had a mix up with another armored vehicle.

Hi Xan, thanks! I am busy painting the interior. I have the photo's of the Yak-1b, in the Polish museum. But now i see that the floor is painted green. How thrustworty is that?

Hi Remco,
I think that it's a color employed for some postwar restoration, possibly the same shade of wheel disks.

Hi Remco,

that looks like an interesting photo - can you please scan it and post scan for all of us?

For the sake of historical accuracy:  There are no Yak-1s in Polish museums. None!!! The sole preserved Yak-1 (one and only preserved Yak-1 of close to 10 000 made!!!) is displayed in Saratov, Russia. This particular plane was donated by F. Golovatiy to HSU B. Yeryomin in Dec 1942.  It was returned to Saratov in mid 1944 and kept in the regional museum since then.  It was overpainted numerous times...  Finaly, it was overhualed, extremely poorly in 2013.

This is all one and the same plane:

In Dec 1942

in 1943:

in 1944

in 2000

around 2010

in Dec 2013

Sad that all fabric, with original paint, had been lost in 2013 restoration...

HTH,
KL

Hi KL!

Glad that you joined the threat!  Cheesy I value your expertise and opinion enormus. Here is my link. Its indeed the Russian museum Yak-1b, not a Polish one. Sorry. Here is my link.

http://scalemodels.ru/modules/photo/viewcat_cid_198.html

The restoration of the Yak is shocking. Green/green with light blue. Regarding the info about russian WWII colors, is this very wrong and not professional.  Embarrassed

What is your opinion about the wheel wells and landing gear colors? It can be all blue, blue wheel wells and grey landing gear, all grey. Were there time tables about the use of the colors on the wheel wells and landing gear? Thanks in advance  Cheesy
