Photos of two MiG-3s   captured by Germans and characterized by roughly painted numbers 24 and 28 on their fins are known. The planes were clearly from the same unit, but we don't know which one, nor the place where they were found. Many of the photos show snow on the ground, so it is likely that they were lost in late fall 1941.

Left:

plane 24 is a wartime produced MiG-3; it appears without te sliding hood, but other pieces lie on the ground, including what seems the aerial mast.

Left:

this photo of 24 is interesting because it shows the rarely seen inner face of the engine side panel with the tunnel for the side oil cooler.

On this side, the hand traced 4 appears smaller than the 2.

Left:

plane 28 lies on an heavily snowy ground. A lot of pieces are missing, but we can see the sliding hood preserved.

Left:

beautiful profile photo of n.28 under the rain or snow. On this side, the number 2 was traced particularly small.

Note the blackish overspraying over the main gear covers to reduce the visibility of the plane from above.

left:

another photo of plane 28, showing something of the camouflage pattern on the fuselage. Note that the front of the prop blades seems camouflaged with black and green.
