Left:

Late type MiG-3s of Pilot V. Matakov from 27 IAP, 6 IAK PVO, Moskow Defence during winter 1941/42.

 The characteristics are:

  • late type but probably without slats;
  • early type tail wheel doors, often associated to slatless wing consoles;
  • white uppersurfaces darkened by stains and light blue undersurfaces;
  • black propeller blades with worn and chipped tips;
  • probably red number 8 on the fin:
  • probably underwing rockets as on many MiGs of Moscow PVO.

Captain A.N. Katrich, commander captain F.S. Chuikin, regiment commander major V.A. Ivanov, commander of the BAO lieutenant colonel I.P. Kudinov close to a MiG-3 of the same unit. It doesn0t seem the same plane 8 because the prop blades appear differently painted.
