This late MiG-3 was photographed on the Kalininsky front, winter 1941/42. The unit is unknown and the plane hasn't visible numbers; its only noticeable charactoeristic is the strong evidence of brush strokes on its winter finish made with MK-8 white distemper over the base black-green camouflage.

The characteristics of the aircraft are:

  • long nosed with slats;
  • equipped with rocket rails apparently painted with light blue as the undersurface;
  • white uppersurfaces, with evident traces of hand brush painting;
  • light blue undersurfaces;
  • probably clean white spinner;
  • fixed tail wheel with canvas cover, without doors;
  • stars roughly contoured with white paint;
  • equipped with radio mast and wires, but no boxes visible through the rear glazing.
